Host Families

I got to spend my year with 3 amazing host families.
» The Ghearings
» The Mahres
» The Adams'

My first host family was the Ghearings. The members of the Ghearing family I lived with were Rod & Carolyn and their son Nick. Rod & Carolyn are two of the most sweetest and fun people in the world. In fact when two members of the family who was supposed to be my first host family suddenly had to get surgeries, Rod & Carolyn stepped in and hosted me. That was even though they had just hosted a German exchange student two weeks before I arrived!
The Ghearings took me on a camp trip to the Capitol Reef National Park in Utah. It was an amazing trip. I got to see the incredible mountains and rocks. I did also get to experience the US way of camping. And yes, I made marsh mellows on a stick over a fire.

My second host family was the Mahres. The members of the Mahre family I lived with were Chris & Trish and their sons Riley & Tommy. It was such a wonderful family too. They did a lot of things with me. They gave me an all-season ski pass for the local ski area and rented skies for. Every day I got home from school I would sit for a while relaxing (sometimes sleeping) in a recliner and as soon as Tommy got home, he would run in hugging me. Adorable!
The Mahres put up two choices for the spring break: Family trip to either Grand Canyon or Las Vegas. I just said "Viva Las Vegas". So we went. It was a very cool trip. I met one of my high school friends there who showed me the Strip (the main street in Las Vegas).

My third host family was the Adams. The members of the Adams family I lived with were Nick & Kristi and their sons Steven & Spencer. This was the busy family. The Adams' are probably one of the most busy families in the world. Their spring schedule had no empty day! Both Nick and Kristi are involved in lots of different organizations and clubs. As are the boys. They both do different sports. I played a lot of basket ball with the Adams boys and went to a lot of their different sport games.
One huge desire while being in the states was to experience an NBA game. So the the Adams took me on a guys trip to Denver to watch my two favorite teams Denver Nuggets and Detroit Pistons play. After the game we went on to see the Olympic Training Center (where Nick now works) and the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. This was an amazing trip that I will never forget.
The Adams also let me throw a goodbye party for my friends and host families the day before I left Grand Junction.

All of my host families have been so nice to me and have become like family to me. I am very thankful and I honestly love them all.
