Autobiography

The story began long time ago...

My name is Philip Højstrup Flindt. I live in Greve, which is located about 20 km or (approx 20 minutes) from Copenhagen, which is the capital city of Denmark.

I was born on November 8th, 1989 in Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka. At the age of 6 weeks my parents adopted me and at Christmas Day, the 24th of December 1989, I came to Denmark. When my wonderful parents from Denmark adopted me they went to Sri Lanka to bring me back to Denmark.

Since my parents went to Sri Lanka to get me, they had opportunity to talk to my biological mother. They have told me that she was a very sweet, handsome woman and that I'm thankful to know. She told my parents that she got pregnant in Saudi-Arabia while she was an au pair girl.

My biological father is officially unknown, but my biological mother told my parents that he was her boyfriend in Saudi-Arabia. My mother practiced Islam and she was not married to my father and that is the reason why she put me up for adopted even though she loved me.

My biological grandparents were Singhalese and Indian respectively, so my biological mother was half Singhalese and half Indian. Because of my unknown biological father, I cannot know exactly what I am. My guess is ¼ Singhalese, ¼ Indian and ½ Saudi-Arabian.

The childhood...

I grew up with my mother Kirsten and my father Keld who (as mentioned above) adopted me. We live in a delightful house. I've got a sister who is 16 years older than me. She lives with her husband and their twin-daughters Laura and Lærke (born July 6th 2004).

The school, dance, and music...

In day nursery through kindergarten I got to know a girl. Her name was Camilla. We started to play together in our spare time and suddenly we started dancing Ballroom Dance at Reinhardt Dans. Camilla was about 1 head taller than me, but we had a lot of fun until Camilla didn't want to dance anymore. Then I started to dance with Camilla J., who also danced at Reinhardt Dans. We danced together for about 3-4 years. It was at this time, back in 1996, I started in elementary school. 1996 was also the year I started to take piano lessons.

But then after 3-4 years Camilla J. wanted to dance with a guy called Marc. Then I started to dance with Mia. Mia and I won a lot and had so much fun in the 6 years we danced together. After the season 2004/2005 we decided to stop dancing Ballroom Dance because of irrelevant reasons.

A few years ago in 2001 I started to dance Boogie with Marie at Reinhardt Dans. We were taught by Per at the same group as Camilla J. and Marc. 2001 was also the year I started to take piano lessons with a new piano teacher, Sune. But everything has an end. Sune had to quit his job, and after the season 2005/2006 Marie and I stopped dancing Boogie because went to the United States of America!

When I got back from the USA Marie and I started attending Per’s Boogie lessons again on and off. I still play the piano but I do not take lessons anymore. I am currently teaching myself to play the guitar.

The end of 10 years in public school...

June 21st 2006 was the day I graduated from public school (elementary/middle/9th grade). It was so great to finally having finished the required part of school. But it was also awkward and very sad to say goodbye to my classmates whom I had known for 10 years! It was so horrible but at the same time also the day we all had been looking forward to. We had a wonderful party and we partied all night long!

1 year of high school in the United States of America...

August 12th I left Denmark to be an exchange student in Grand Junction, Colorado, USA! I was chosen to represent Hundige Rotary Club as their Rotary Youth Exchange Student 2006/2007.

Please read more about my Rotary Youth Exchange Year, Rotary and the Rotary Youth Exchange Program, and watch photos from my exchange year in the Rotary section.

Greve Gymnasium...

On August 16th 2007 I started at Greve Gymnasium. Gymnasium in Denmark is like a high school. I am taking a Spanish-music-oriented education at Greve Gymnasium. I have currently finished the first of three years.
